Shenzhen plans link to Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge

Shenzhen is working on a plan to build a branch road to connect with the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, which will be put into operation soon.

The plan was released at a meeting Wednesday between the city’s political advisers and government officials led by Mayor Chen Rugui on the progress on completing the proposals of political advisers for improving the city’s transport system.

No further details were available.

The move aims to further improve the integration of the transportation network of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

At the meeting, the city’s transport commission said Shenzhen will be connected to the cities in the west bank of the Pearl River through rail and road links, such as Shenzhen-Zhongshan Corridor, Shenzhen-Zhuhai Corridor that includes rail and road links, the branch road with the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, and an intercity rail with Zhongshan.

To the north, Shenzhen is also planning to build a high-speed rail, via Guangzhou, to Hunan Province’s economic hubs Changsha, Zhuzhou and Xiangtan.

The city will also speed up the construction of Shenzhen-Maoming, Ganzhou-Shenzhen, Shenzhen-Shanwei high-speed railways, and make a feasibility study on the second coastal high-speed rail to Yangtze River Delta cities. The designed new high-speed rail will make stops at Heyuan or Meizhou in Guangdong, and connect to the under-construction Hangzhou-Guangzhou-Zhanjiang high-speed rail.

As the China Railway Corp. has approved setting up the Airport East Station on the Shenzhen-Maoming high-speed rail, Shenzhen is planning to construct a high-speed rail to Nanning via Yulin in Guangxi. The rail will connect to the Guangzhou-Guizhou high-speed rail and Nanning-Guangzhou high-speed rail.

The planned Xili Station in Nanshan District will be a backbone station and the terminus of the Shenzhen-Maoming high-speed rail and Ganzhou-Shenzhen high-speed rail. The final draft for its construction will be unveiled before the end of the year.

According to the city’s Metro network construction plan for 2016-2035, Line 33 will be built to link Pingshan in the east with the airport in the west. It will cut the trip from Longgang CBD to the airport’s Terminal 4 to 40 minutes.

Meanwhile, workers began laying rail for the Guangzhou-Dongguan-Shenzhen intercity rail Tuesday. The 76.1-km intercity rail starts in Xintang, Guangzhou and ends at the Shenzhen airport. It will cut the travel time between Shenzhen and Guangzhou to one hour. It has 15 stations, including 10 on elevated bridges and five underground. The rail will be extended to Qianhai in the future.
