Shenzhen's job fair for graduates offers 30,000 posts

The autumn job fair for university graduates attracted 40,000 people to Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center yesterday.

More than 660 Shenzhen enterprises offered 30,000 vacancies for jobseekers. Most of them came from Guangdong, Hunan, Hubei, Guangxi and Jiangxi.

Among them, 56 percent hold bachelor’s degrees and 29 percent have master’s or doctoral degrees. One quarter of them graduated from prestigious universities under the national 985 and 211 programs.

Statistics from the fair organizer, Shenzhen Public Employment Center, a subsidiary of the city human resources bureau, showed the enterprises received a total of 50,000 applications from on-site jobseekers, 20 percent of whom will probably be recruited, equivalent to last year’s number.

Among the enterprises, 80 percent are engaged in the pillar industries, or strategic and emerging industries, the organizers said.

Around 80 State-owned enterprises, including Shenzhen Airport Group Corp., Shenzhen Cereal Group, Shenzhen Metro Group and Shenzhen Water Resources Bureau, joined the fair.

At this year’s fair, the organizers set up booths to guide employment, assess professional choices, and provide consultations for jobseekers as most of them are students.

The career assessment booths are popular among students as they can get advice in choosing jobs and careers. After consultations with human resourses experts, the students can get their assessment results by scanning a QR code.

At the fair, more than 2,000 people participated in the assessment and resume diagnosis, and more than 1,000 students inquired about employment policies.

An online job fair has been started today at http://www.zshr.cn, offering around 50,000 posts to college graduates. The online job fair will run until the end of the year, offering more choices for college graduates.

The annual job fair for graduates was initiated in 1997 and has become an influential event for colleges and graduates in South China.
