A spokesperson for Guangdong police stated that crime detection, criminal internment and arrest rates respectively increased 1.8% and 15.9% and 10.7% year-on-year.

“Guangdong police has busted 25 criminal gangs, 85 criminal groups and frozen 2.54 billion RMB worth of illegal property,” said Lin Weixiong, Deputy Director General of the Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department. “Public security organs in Guangdong will continue to crack down on crimes involving gambling, drugs, smuggling and cross-border crimes involving Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.”

From August 15th to September 15th, Guangdong’s Provincial Public Security Department organized a special operation with the help of "Smart Policing", which integrates information from the Public Security Department with big data to cross-reference data on known fugitives. As a result, more than 1,000 fugitives were apprehended.

At the press conference, 10 whistleblowers wearing masks received 1.13 million RMB in cash rewards from Guangdong police, after providing tip offs that helped the police to make the arrests.
