Guangdong police crack down on cyber pornography crime

Guangdong’s Provincial Public Security Department has shut down more than 650 web platforms and frozen assets worth 20 million RMB relating to 'cyber pornography' in Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai and other cities.

According to Guangdong’s Provincial Public Security Department, the channels for watching pornography are mainly divided into video and live streaming Apps

In February this year, Shenzhen police found that a number of Shenzhen netizens had downloaded the “Wangwang Webcast” App to watch pornographic streaming services and participate in live gambling events. This is a new type of criminal case that simultaneously involves online pornography and online gambling on a webcast platform, enticing users to pay for viewing.

Guangdong police then launched special operation to apprehend cyber pornography criminal gangs behind the “Wangwang Webcast” App, seizing over 20 suspects.

According to Chinese Criminal Law, people who, for the purpose of making profit, manufacture, duplicate, publish, sell or disseminate any obscene articles shall be fined and be sentenced to a minimum fixed-term three year prison sentence. Whoever distributes obscene articles to minors under the age of 18 will be severely punished.
