A press conference for the 27th Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival and the 34th Popular Movies Hundred Flowers Awards was held in Beijing on Aug 9.

The 27th China Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival, the only national-level film event and one of the most influential film festivals on the Chinese mainland, is set to be held in Foshan, Guangdong province from Oct 31 to Nov 3.

Foshan has been hosting the annual event for 20 years, since 1997, when it held the 6th China Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival.

Guo Wenhai, head of Foshan's publicity department, introduced the city's preparations for the events at the press conference. He said that Foshan is vigorously developing cultural undertakings and cultural industries, especially in film and television. He added that the Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival will greatly promote Foshan's economic and social development, and especially boost the city's film and television industries.

According to Guo, the preparation work for the events has entered the final sprint phase. There will be five categories of 30 activities, including opening and closing ceremonies, film exhibitions, and academic forums. Additionally, Foshan is planning a series of activities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area featuring the characteristics of the times, regional characteristics and film features such as a thematic show celebrating the 40th anniversary of reform and opening-up and a kung fu–themed film exhibition.
