Guangzhou unveils three major international events in second half of 2018

Lei Weiju, Deputy Director of Guangzhou Foreign Affairs Office, unveiled that Guangzhou is planning three major international events in the second half of the 2018 during a press conference on July 26th.

Lei said Guangzhou is about to hold the 4th Guangzhou International Award for Urban Innovation (Guangzhou Award) in December this year, and has accepted registration from 105 cities of 43 countries for the award by far.

“We will have representatives from both overseas cities, such as Moscow, Buenos Aires, Vancouver, Madrid, Athens and Seoul, and domestic cities which involve Shenzhen, Wuhan, Xiamen, Hangzhou and Guangzhou,” said Lei.

In fact, the Guangzhou Award has become a platform for the city to establish strong partnerships with international organizations and strengthen communication with more than 200 cities worldwide. It enables more global KOLs in the field of urban innovation to notice Guangzhou and start cooperation with the city.

Moreover, another two grand international events, the World Route Development Forum 2018 and the Fortune Global Tech Forum 2018, will be held in Guangzhou lately this year.

During the conference, Lei Weiju also reviewed Guangzhou’s major international exchanges in the first six month.

“The city sent 11 delegations to visit its sister cities while receiving 20 delegations from these cities,” he said. “we saw a new sister city, Rio de Janeiro, and two countries, Belarus and Uruguay, set up their consulates in Guangzhou as well.”

In addition, Guangzhou also participated in a series of international events, including the World Economic Forum and the Boao Forum for Asia, and held 13 high-end international conferences including the Guangzhou Annual Investment Conference.
