Energy-efficient buildings promoted in the city

The floor space of energy-efficient buildings in Shenzhen has reached 159 million square meters and the city has built 10 ecological industrial parks and green urban areas, sources from the energy-saving promotion week said.

The promotion week, organized by the city’s housing and construction bureau, focused on the theme of energy saving, emissions reduction and blue skies. It was held at Das Tower in Nanshan District between June 11 and Sunday, which is known for its energy-saving and intelligent features.

The building, fully funded by Shenzhen Das Intellitech Co. Ltd., is regarded as a model in Shenzhen in the application of intelligent technologies and energy-saving techniques. The building has earned LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, a green building label issued by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of China, and green building certification issued by Shenzhen’s construction authority.

LEED, the abbreviation for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is one of the most important green building certification programs used worldwide and includes a set of rating systems for the design, construction, operation and maintenance of green buildings that aims to help building owners and operators be environmentally responsible and use resources efficiently.

Shenzhen established an accreditation system for green buildings and construction materials in August 2013.

Government-funded buildings and public facilities with a floor space of more than 50,000 square meters, residential buildings with a construction area of more than 100,000 square meters, schools, hospitals, cultural and sports facilities and all new city renovation projects must be built according to the green standards.
