Shenzhen's intelligent equipment sector springs up

In recent years, Shenzhen has released favorable policies to support the development of the high-end intelligent equipment manufacturing sector, which has filled a gap in the industrial structure, according to a report in the Shenzhen Special Zone Daily.

The report stated that Shenzhen has continuously improved its policy support system in recent years for strategic emerging and future industries, effectively promoting the transformation and upgrade of equipment manufacturing to precision manufacturing and high-end intelligent manufacturing.

The city has clear goals for enhancing the high-end manufacturing sector, with a major focus on intelligent manufacturing, which is mainly seen in such fields as robotics, wearable equipment and intelligent equipment, as well as the aerospace and ocean equipment engineering industries.

Shenzhen-based high-end equipment manufacturing has entered a new developmental phase, with most of the related firms based in Bao’an and Nanshan districts, where the total number of such enterprises now stands at more than 4,300, after three years of growth at more than 600 enterprises annually, according to the Shenzhen Research Institute of Commercial Registration and Code Application.

In terms of marine engineering equipment, Shenzhen’s industrial chain has taken shape, covering sub-sectors such as design, manufacturing and maintenance, with nearly 300 related enterprises.

Among them, enterprises in the special equipment manufacturing and maintenance industries account for nearly 5 percent of the total. Well-known enterprises in these fields include China International Marine Containers Group, Offshore Oil Engineering Co. Ltd., Yiu Lian Dockyards (Shekou) Ltd., and China Merchants Industry Holdings. Ltd.

“By June 15, more than 60 percent of enterprises involved in industrial robot manufacturing were in Shenzhen’s intelligent manufacturing equipment sector, and the number of enterprises, and registered capital, was significantly higher than that of other industries,” according to an expert from the research institute.

About 35 percent of the enterprises in the intelligent manufacturing equipment industry have dabbled in the manufacture of intelligent control devices, which are mainly manufactured with industrial automatic control systems.

At the same time, Shenzhen’s rail transit equipment industry has also made its mark, and a large number of enterprises with significant influence and development potential have sprung up. Currently, there are 135 such enterprises in the city, such as BYD and Shenzhen Changlong Railway Electronic Engineering Co. Ltd.

Shenzhen is also known as the “City of Drones” among drone enthusiasts around the globe. Statistics show that there are currently more than 2,000 drone enterprises in the city, including more than 600 enterprises that manufacture drones.

A set of data released by the Shenzhen Drone Industry Association showed that Shenzhen’s annual drone output value had reached 30 billion yuan (US$4.66 billion), accounting for more than 70 percent of the global civilian drone market.

In addition, there are nearly 500 aviation equipment enterprises in the city, and most of them are related to manufacturing and maintenance.

With a good foundation in the electronics and telecom industries, Shenzhen’s satellite and satellite applications industries have also achieved great development in recent years, with nearly 1,300 enterprises, such as China Communication Technology Co. Ltd. and E-eye.
