Guangdong police busts cross-border drug trafficking channels and distribution centers

From January to May, Guangdong police have closed more than 4600 drug-related cases, with 5.4 tons of drugs being seized during these operations, according to a press conference held by Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department on June 13rd.

“More than 6000 drug-related suspects were prosecuted from January, 2017 to May, 2018,” said Lin Weixiong, Deputy Director-General of Guangdong’s Provincial Public Security Department. “More campaigns are to be launched soon, as fighthing against drugs and related crimes is a long-term task.”

According to the Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department, police in Foshan, Shenzhen, Dongguan, Shanwei and Jieyang have broken up a cross-border drug ring this month, seizing 4.79 kilograms of crystal meth in the process.

39 suspects were detained during the operation, of whom 16 are Vietnamese. Furthermore, police seized 4 pistols and 44 rounds of ammunition.

Guangzhou and Foshan police have cracked down on another drug gang, seizing 5.2kg heroin and 10g crystal meth. As of June 11th, 20 suspects had been detained, including 12 expats.

Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department indicated that a number of cross-border drug trafficking channels and distribution centers have been destroyed.

According to Chinese Criminal Law, people who smuggle, sell or produce more than 50kg drugs, such as heroin and crystal meth, will be sentenced at least 15 years in prison, with possibility of life imprisonment or even the death penalty.

Guangdong police also remind people never to help strangers carry something when entering or exiting China.


Guangdong police public destruction of drugs in Humen

In order to commemorate the 179th anniversary of Destruction of opium at Humen, Guangdong’s Provincial Public Security Department and other related departments held an event called “Healthy Life without Drugs” in Humen, Dongguan on June 3rd.

At site of the Destruction of Opium in Humen, over 1,200 volunteers, youths and students learned of the harm drugs can inflict through exhibitions and interactive games.

Moreover, a batch of drugs was destroyed as part of powerful demonstration.

“Guangdong always places great emphasis on creating a safe, drug-free environment for citizens through enforcement and prohibition of harmful substances,” said Lin Weixiong, Director General of the Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department.
