Guangzhou’s first Nepal Mela promotes business, cultural exchange

The first Nepal Mela (Nepal Fair) in Guangzhou is being held at Xihulu Square, Beijing Road from June 11th to 13th. It is to bring Nepal’s potential products in Chinese market, and forge an exchange platform for Nepali and Chinese in economic and cultural relations at every level.

According to Mr. Ravi Bhattarai, Consul General of Nepal in Guangzhou, the demonstration of Nepali specialty products in the Mela will familiarize the stakeholders with the current status of trade, tourism and investment between the two countries.

Mr. Ravi Bhattarai hopes the success of this Mela (Fair) will invite more such programs in near future to enhance cooperation of both sides.

Friendly countries all over the world including Nepal are welcomed to hold promotion events of culture, tourism and trade at Beijing Road Culturial Tourism Zone, said Ms. Guo Huan, Deputy District Director General of the People’s Government of Yuexiu District. It will help to make the zone into a more well-known tourism destination.

Also, the fair will promote the exchange, cooperation of both sides in culture, tourism, commerce, and to further enhance Guangzhou citizens' understanding of Nepal.

Guangdong and Nepal share a close economic and trade cooperation in fields like investment, infrastructure and medical care.

According to the statistics by Department of Commerce of Guangdong, in 2017, the export and import volume between Guangdong and Nepal reached 250 million USD, with a growth of 47.1%.

Last year, ten investment projects from Nepal were approved in Guangdong, with the contracted investment of 7.39 million USD and the increase rate of 93.5% year-on-year.

Currently, the contracted investment from Guangdong to Nepal has reached 50 million USD.

Next, the province will further strengthen economic and trade cooperation with countries along the Belt and Road for mutual benefit.
