Shenzhen traffic police gift helmets to e-bike riders

Shenzhen traffic police held a special event on May 29, giving away thousands of free helmets to e-bike riders in the city's Bao'an district. The recipients include couriers, food deliverers, and sanitary workers who need to ride e-bikes while working.

The move was part of the Shenzhen traffic police's efforts to promote public awareness of the importance of wearing helmets when riding e-bikes. According to statistics from the department, 40 percent of people who died in traffic accidents in the city in recent years were e-bike riders not wearing helmets. Since mid-May, Shenzhen traffic police have been redoubling their efforts to promote helmet-wearing and deal with violators. The helmet-wearing rate in delivery industries has recently increased to 32 percent.

A total of 8,000 helmets were gifted to e-bike riders by Shenzhen traffic police, and in the future another 10,000 helmets will be given away in the city's Nanshan, Bao'an, Longgang, Longhua, and Pingshan districts, as well as Dapeng New District.
