On May 25, a litchi culture exhibition kicked off at Gaozhou Museum in Maoming, west Guangdong Province. Featuring 67 pieces (groups) of litchi themed exhibits, the exhibition presents the history, stories, secrets and artistic images of litchi to the locals and visitors.

Since it is held in Gaozhou, Gaozhou elements are another highlight of the exhibition. There are litchi themed objects collected by Gaozhou Museum, some special pages about litchi culture and the city, and a simulation scene of litchi harvest in Gaozhou.

The exhibition is co-hosted by Guangdong Museum and Gaozhou Chamber of Commerce in Guangzhou. It will last for two months until July 25. Then it will be exhibited in Zhongshan Museum, Dongguan Opium War Museum and Guangzhou Panyu Museum.

About litchi and Gaozhou

Litchi is a nutritious fruit containing glucose, vitamins, phosphorous and potassium. The litchi tree is native to southern China, where farmers have cultivated it for thousands of years.

Litchi culture enjoys profound connotation and influence in Gaozhou, a county-level city in Maoming, west Guangdong Province. The city is one of the main producing areas of litchi in Guangdong, even in China. Its litchis were once the tributes to imperial court in history.

Genzi Town in Gaozhou is one of the most famous litchi areas in Guangdong. It has a history of over 2000 years of litchi plantation and is home to a great many ancient litchi trees more than hundred years old. You can enjoy many different kinds of litchi here during the harvest season every year.

Gaozhou in west Guangdong is too far away from Guangzhou? Don’t worry. Once the Guangzhou-Zhanjiang high-speed railway is put into operation this June, it will only take you about 2.5 hours to get to Gaozhou in Maoming.

Here are some great spots in Maoming and Guangzhou where you can enjoy a sweet and fun trip of litchi-picking with your family and friends.
