The first SCO Political Parties Forum opens in Shenzhen

On May 26th, the first Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Political Parties Forum started in Shenzhen. The forum attracts almost 200 representatives of over 30 political parties from 18 countries.

In the keynote speech, Song Tao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC) said, SCO is an important comprehensive regional organization with increasing influences since its establishment 17 years ago.

Political parties are the guides of national development and play an important leading role in building a community of shared future for mankind and building a better world. The enhanced cooperation of political parties will boost the development of SCO.

By the chance of this forum, CPC would like to cooperate with SCO members for building a community with a shared future. All parties should work together to reach political consensus, promote practical cooperation and further mutual interests, strengthen people-to-people ties and cultural exchanges, added Song.

Fu Hua, a standing committee member of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee and Head of Guangdong's Publicity Department, introduced to the guests Guangdong’s development since the implementation of the reform and opening up policy.

Now, Guangdong is thoroughly studying and implementing the spirit of the 19th CPC National Congress and President Xi Jinping’s speeches, to gain more achievements under the guide of President Xi Jinping’s Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, said Fu.

The province will actively participate in the construction of the Belt and Road, deepen economic and cultural cooperation with SCO members for mutual benefit and common development.

The SCO Political Parties Forum was hosted by IDCPC with the theme of “Gather the wisdom of parties and promote Shanghai Spirit for the building of a community with a shared future for mankind”.

It is a warm-up event for the upcoming 18th Summit of SCO to be held in June in Qingdao.

On the same day in Shenzhen, the second China-CELAC Political Parties Forum and the fourth China-Africa Young Leaders Forum were unveiled.

The two forums give Guangdong a chance to have dialogues and strengthen cooperation with political parties from Latin American countries and African countries.

The forums attracted more than 80 representatives from over 60 political parties, regional organizations from nearly 30 countries and above 70 young politicians from almost 40 African countries.
