Guangdong police crack biggest cocaine cross-border trafficking case

Guangdong police has recently cracked a major cross-border cocaine trafficking and smuggling case, according to a press conference held by the Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department on April 24th.

Some of the evidence are exhibited at the conference.

1.3 tons of cocaine worth over 1 billion RMB were seized by the police in Dongguan and Guangzhou: the most cocaine siezed in a single case since the establishment of the People’s Republic of China.

In early August, 2017, clues shown that the gang was going to conduct a major transaction. The police successfully caught 3 suspects (Hong Kong residents) in a Shenzhen neighborhood and seized 40 kilograms' cocaine in Dongguan. In early February, 2018, the police received clues that the gang was going to conduct another major trasaction and had quickly reacted. In a Guangzhou neighborhood, the police caught 2 suspects (Hong Kong residents) and seized 1291 kilograms of cocaine at the crime scene. 

The cocaine had been shipped from a South American country before landing at a port in Guangdong’s Shanwei city, and transported to Guangzhou. The police successfully captured these drugs before the gang could ship them abroad.

Backstage manipulators surnamed Zheng and Chen (both are Hong Kong residents) fled abroad after the capture, however, justice has a long arm. The Ministry of Public Security quickly implemented an international manhunt and respectively caught the two suspects on March 7th and 22nd this year.

The whole criminal gang,consisting of 19 members, was seized and detained. More details will be disclosed after ongoing investigation and questioning.

The gang had taken advantage of both the convenient transportation system in Pearl River Delta and their connections throughout the province, Zhai Kaixia, head of the Guangdong Drug Control Bureau said at the press conference.

Guangdong police will continue to combat drug trafficking and smuggling. The press conference revealed that 2793 drug-related cases have been solved, 3493 suspects been captured and a total of 4.1 tons of drugs have been seized by Guangdong police this year.
