Man arrested after robbing 5.1 mln USD worth of jewellery in downtown Hong Kong

Hong Kong police said they had arrested a man with tourist visa and were searching for another two men after they snatched goods worth about 40 million Hong Kong dollars (about 5.1 million U.S. dollars) from a downtown jewellery shop on Monday morning.

Three men smashed the window of a jewellery shop in the Central district with hammers and snatched some diamond jewellery within dozens of seconds, said Sin Kwok-ming, chief inspector of Police Regional Crime Unit, Crime Hong Kong Island.

One man was arrested at the scene and most of the stolen items were recovered from him, Sin said.

The other two robbers, at their 30s, were said to have fled towards Lan Kwai Fong.

The police had found two hammers, some clothes and gloves suspected to be related to the robbery in a nearby street.
