Shenzhen's car owners warned of plate number peddlers

Shenzhen’s traffic police warned car owners to be wary of those who fabricate rumors and claim that they can procure highly sought-after license plate numbers, such as those containing “888” or “999,” from “insiders,” according to sznews.com.

Many car owners are obsessed with the eye-catching license plate numbers and are willing to pay high prices to get them.

According to the traffic police, car owners should be wary of those who claim that they can buy these numbers from “insiders,” because it is probably a scam.

Car owners can go to the vehicle administration office to choose a number from 50 numbers that are randomly selected by a computer. They can also select a number online, by inputting the numbers they would prefer or choosing a number from 10 numbers randomly selected by the computer.

According to the report, it’s easy for residents to get numbers containing “66” or “88” if they select the numbers online by inputting their preferred numbers after a new batch of numbers is released. This is how people who claim that they can buy numbers from “insiders” are able to get the popular numbers.

After a new batch of numbers is released, car owners can pick their numbers by choosing from the numbers randomly selected by the computer during the first week. After the first week, they can select the numbers by inputting their preferred numbers.
