On the morning of March 6, the plenary meeting of deputies from Guangdong Province at the first session of the 13th National People’s Congress was held in Beijing, capital of China. The meeting was opened to media from home and abroad.
About 300 journalists from over 120 media attended the meeting and raised questions about the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, coordinated development and so on. Li Xi, Party Chief of Guangdong Province, Ma Xingrui, Governor of Guangdong Province, and other provincial leaders answered the questions.
Li Xi, Party Chief of Guangdong Province, said, under the guide of President Xi Jinping’s Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, Guangdong strives to lead the country in the new journey to build a prosperous society in a comprehensive way, to accelerate the construction of socialist modernization, and to build the province into an important ‘window’ and ‘model area’ to show the world the implementation of Xi’s Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era.
Guangdong will focus on pushing forward the following nine major tasks: strengthen Party building in an all-round way, promote the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, solve problems caused by unbalanced and inadequate development, propel comprehensively deepening reform, build a strong province in scientific and technological innovation, construct new system for building an open economy, rule of law & safe Guangdong, boost the construction of ecological civilization and advance cultural development.
When answering the questions about coordinated development of regions, Li Xi said Guangdong is considering dividing the regional development into three parts: to further the development of the core areas of the Pearl River Delta, to spur the eastern and western Guangdong to be new economic growth poles form a coastal economic belt with PRD cities, and to build northern Guangdong into a region driven by green economy achieving high quality development under high level protection.
When answering the question raised by journalist from Hong Kong’s Ta Kung Pao Newspaper about the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Ma, Guangdong Governor, introduced that this year’s governmental work report clarified that the development planning for the Greater Bay Area would be formulated and executed.
Ma averred that Guangdong will better the coordination mechanism to close the connections among Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao. Meanwhile, a periodic reporting mechanism will be established to strength communication with the Central Government and related ministries.
Ma stated that focusing on the goal of constructing the first-class bay area and world-level cities cluster, Guangdong will make more efforts to quicken the province’s infrastructure construction, improve the level of integration of markets, optimize the regional innovative environment, accelerate the process of “Going Global” with Hong Kong and Macao, build a high-quality living community and establish a modern industrial system with international competitiveness.
