The number of international transfer passengers on China Southern Airlines at the Shenzhen airport hit 1,000 Sunday, a new record.
Among the passengers, eighty percent took connecting flights to southeastern Asian countries. They mainly came from northern Chinese cities including Changchun, Harbin and Beijing and were traveling to Phuket, Bali, Bangkok and Phnum Penh.
The transfer passengers to Oceania mainly went to Sydney and Melbourne.
China Southern Airlines carried 34,400 passengers arriving at and leaving Shenzhen on Feb. 11.
According to the marketing department of the Shenzhen office of China Southern Airlines, ridership to northeastern Chinese cities increased by 20 percent. There are still some limited tickets available on the routes to Beijing, Shanghai and East China cities. Tickets on other routes have been sold out.
Passenger turnover at Shenzhen Railway Station and Shenzhen East Railway Station reached 154,000 Sunday.
The two stations had sent 1.345 million passengers back home in the 11 days by Sunday.
