If you want to experience Chinese Zen Buddhism culture, Guangdong’s western city Yunfu is a must-go. The Six Patriarch Hui Neng, founder of the Chinese Zen Buddhism was born and propagated Buddhist teachings in Yunfu, which left the city a profound Zen Buddhism culture.
Recently the story of the Six Patriarch Hui Neng was brought onto the stage. After over three years of preparation, the World’s First Chan Sect Culture Live-action Performance Scenario Experience of “Chan Sect Sanctuary · The Sixth Patriarch Huineng” will debut in Xinxing County, Yunfu on Feb 1st , according to a press conference held by Information Office of Xinxing County on 29th January, 2018.

Up-to-date techniques and innovative deductive approaches are adopted in the performance to showcase essence of Zen Buddhism Culture, according to Mei Hong, CEO of Top Tier Cultural Ltd. Co, and chief director and producer of the show.
The performance tells the story of Huineng’s extraordinary life in advocating Buddhism. A theatre was specially built to recreate the Zen Buddhist atmosphere.

This unique 360-degree rotating lotus-shaped theatre, built to provide multidimensional dynamic performances integrating with indoor and outdoor, is considered to be the highlight of the action. Performing venues include a 60-meter tunnel to show Huineng’s journey converting to Buddhism, a wall with 288 Buddhism bells and a 45-meter-wide folding screen of Diamond Sutra.

A total investment of 300 million RMB has been put into the performance. The local government has been promoting the project to forge a cultural brand of Zen Buddhism and Lingnan culture.
