One of 10 cities with fine air quality in 2017: Zhuhai

The city of Zhuhai has risen to the top 10 of 74 monitored nationwide for air quality over the previous year, according to a notice posted on the website of the Ministry of Environmental Protection on Jan 18.

The other nine with the best air quality are Haikou, Lhasa, Zhoushan, Xiamen, Fuzhou, Huizhou, Shenzhen, Lishui, and Guiyang.

Haikou, Zhangjiakou, Fuzhou, Xiamen, Dalian, Zhoushan, Lhasa, Shenzhen, Beijing, and Kunming were the top 10 in December alone, with Dalian and Zhoushan tied for fifth place.

At the bottom of the January-December list are Shijiazhuang, Handan, Xingtai, Baoding, Tangshan, Taiyuan, Xi'an, Hengshui, Zhengzhou, and Jinan.

Xuzhou, Handan, Xi’an, Lanzhou, Baoding, Shijiazhuang, Taiyuan, Xingtai, Jinan, and Chengdu occupied the bottom listings in December.

Nonetheless, the nine cities of the Pearl River Delta saw the ratio of days reaching national standards drop by 5.1 percent to 76.3 in December and by 5 percent to 84.5 for the twelve-month period.

The average concentration of PM2.5 in the area grew by 1.9 percent to 55 mcg per cubic meter, and that of PM10 was up 1.2 percent to 81 mcg per cubic meter in December. These two indictors averaged 34 and 53 mcg per cubic meter in 2017, both meeting national Grade-II Level annual averages.
