Culture week offers overseas audience a peek into Cantonese culture

Record of Handan, a story written by renowned Chinese playwright Tang Xianzu in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), will be rendered into a Cantonese opera and staged in London on Jan 25.

The special opera, to be performed by artists from Guangzhou Drama Art Center, will mark the beginning of the 2018 Guangzhou Culture Week, an event featuring a wide range of cultural activities to be held in the Europe, Oceania and Latin America.

Other highlights of the 2018 Guangzhou Culture Week include performances of Guangdong's folk art forms, Lingnan acrobatics and modern dances performed by Guangzhou International Sister City Culture and Art Troupe from Feb 1 to 8 in Auckland and Queenstown of New Zealand.

From Feb 7 to 14, Guangzhou Culture Week will also organize puppet shows and distinctive Lingnan singing and dancing activities in Mexico City.

Since its inception in 2016, Guangzhou Culture Week has brought distinctive culture and arts of Guangzhou city to more than one million overseas audiences across the world.
