Guangdong, Macao to further cooperate on Greater Bay Area construction

On Jan 10, Guangdong Province and Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) inked 8 pacts for Greater Bay Area construction during the Guangdong-Macao Cooperation Joint Conference in Guangzhou.

Guangdong's Party Chief, Li Xi, Guangdong Governor Ma Xingrui and Macao SAR Chief Executive Chui Sai On attended the meeting.

The meeting highlighted further cooperation focus on Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area construction including infrastructure, cooperation platforms, Belt and Road construction, industrial coordinated development, scientific and technological projects, people’s livelihood.

According to Li, the 19th CPC National Congress pointed out that priority should be given to the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, cooperation between Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao, and regional cooperation in the pan-Pearl River Delta, thus fully advancing mutually beneficial cooperation between the mainland and the two regions. It provides a great opportunity for further cooperation between Guangdong and Macao.

Guangdong will make effort to participating in the Belt and Road Initiative, Greater Bay Area construction. Li hoped Guangdong and Macao to seize the opportunity and enhance the cooperation for the country’s development.

“Macao and Guangdong have made progress in cooperation of economy, society and culture under the Guangdong-Macao cooperation joint conference over the past year,” said Chui. He expected both sides to have more exchanges on the Belt and Road Initiative, Greater Bay Area construction and people’s livelihood.

Guangdong Governor Ma Xingrui, Macao SAR Chief Executive Chui Sai On inked the cooperation pacts on behalf of their respective government.

Those cooperation pacts cover issues on food safety, youth exchanges and intellectual property protection, etc.
