Not only is badminton one of the city's most beloved sports, Guangzhou also has a long tradition with the shuttlecock, having produced eight world champions and two Olympic champions in the past. Guangzhou have also hosted a range of other important badminton events before including the Thomas & Uber Cup Finals in 2002, the Sudirman Cup in 2009 and the World Championships in 2013.
Guangzhou has proven that it is capable of hosting great badminton events, which is why the BWF looks forward to working with the third largest Chinese city, according to Larsen.
The signing of a sponsorship agreement between global banking group HSBC and BWF and the release of the new logo for the 2018-2021 BWF World Tour Finals also happened on Jan 8.
