A total of four subway lines including the south extension section of Line 4, first phase projects of Line 9 and Line 13, Line 14 Knowledge City Branch in Guangzhou will start trial operations by the end of this month, according to Guangzhou Metro.
On Dec 19, a group of 25 passengers including local citizens and journalists were invited to take a ride on a Line 13 train. The Line 13 is the first of its kind in China with a designed fastest speed of 100 kilometers per hour. The train is 186 meters long and three meters wide, capable of transporting more than 3,400 passengers at a single time.
To improve passenger services, the four lines were all equipped with baby care rooms, ticket machines offering non-cash ticket-selling services as well as special carriages only for women.

With the opening of the four lines, the total length of Guangzhou Metro has reached 390.6 kilometers, ranking third in China.
According to Xu Kunjie, director of the publicity department of Guangzhou Metro, the maximum ticket price for single trip will rise from 14 yuan ($2.12) to 17 yuan ($2.57) and Guangzhou Metro will carry an average of 8.2 million passengers per day after the four lines start to operate.
