Guangzhou holds convention to lure overseas talent

Guangzhou will host the Convention on Exchange of Overseas Talents and the 19th Guangzhou Convention of Overseas Chinese Scholars in Science and Technology from Dec 20 to 21.

As an influential platform of innovation and entrepreneurship, the convention is designed to attract more overseas talents to work in China.

Attendees to the event are expected to exceed 3,000. As of now, more than 2,500 talents from home and abroad have enrolled to take part, 60 percent of which hold doctorates.

Some of the participants are high-level talents from developed countries, such as the US and Japan, as well as countries located along the Belt and Road. There are also approximately 350 experts of the national Thousand Talents Program and 100 candidates for the innovation and entrepreneurship competition which will be held during the convention.

To recruit more talents, a job fair exclusive to Global Fortune 500 enterprises will be held for which more than 50 companies have registered, including Foxconn, Wal-Mart, Jingdong and Sinopec.

More than 200 government delegations, universities, research institutes and enterprises have signed up for the convention, and will have some 10,000 job opportunities available.

One of the key activities of the convention will be its top forums, to which more than 30 well-known academicians from home and abroad have been invited, including Wang Xiaodong, member of the National Academy of Sciences, and Shen Baogen and Chen Hesheng, academicians of Chinese Academy of Sciences.

To promote the national strategy on innovation and entrepreneurship, an overseas talents summit and a forum on human resources service industry are also scheduled.
