The partnership between the Australian state of New South Wales (NSW) and China's Guangdong province was further strengthened on Thursday, with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between NSW Health and the Guangdong Health and Family Planning Commission.
On the final day of their three-day trade mission to China, NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian and Minister for Health Brad Hazzard inked the agreement with Guangdong to bolster innovation and cultural ties in the healthcare sector.
"This year marks the 38th year of the NSW Sister-State relationship with Guangdong province and this agreement once again shows just how important Guangdong is to our State," Berejiklian said in a statement.
The MoU will provide greater opportunity for two-way trade and professional healthcare development for many NSW organizations and businesses in the future, the statement said.
Among those organizations attempting to establish a presence in China on the back of the agreement is non-profit early parenting service Tresillian, who travelled with the delegation during the visit.
"Our universal goal is helping children and families, which we will look to also now do in China," Tresillian CEO Robert Mills said.
"Our second goal will be to generate additional revenue so we can help more families back in NSW."
In the financial year to 2017, NSW goods and services exports to China totalled more than 5.4 billion U.S. dollars.
Berejiklian believes the new agreement in healthcare will enhance that figure even further.
