2017 GZDOC to open, leading the copyright trading of 4K documentaries

2017 Guangzhou International Documentary Film Festival (GZDOC 2017) will be held at Guangzhou Library from Dec. 11 to 14, 2017. It is going to be the first in China to achieve copyright trading of 4K documentaries.

This year’s festival will specially set up a 4K Section on its online Docshop, working with 170 distributors at home and abroad to conduct copyright trading of 4K documentaries. (Note: 4K resolution, also called 4K, refers to a horizontal screen display resolution in the order of 4,000 pixels.)

Hosted by the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television of China, GZDOC is organized by the People’s Government of Guangdong Province and the Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television of Guangdong, and undertaken by Guangzhou Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, TV, Film, Press and Publication.

As of the end of August, a total of 4,239 documentaries from 113 countries and regions had been entered into the GZDOC 2017, a record high both in terms of the number of documentary entries and participating countries and regions. And 39 of the documentaries have been selected for the final of Golden Kapok Award Competition.

It’s worth mentioning that eight international documentary festivals will gather at the 2017 GZDOC for the first time. Eight international documentary festival committees, including the Canadian International Documentary Festival, MIPTV, IDFA, and Sheffield International Documentary Festival, will take part in the documentary screening section, proposal and pitch section, trading section, etc.

Besides, a dozen of documentary television broadcast platforms from around the globe, such as Discovery Channel and National Geographic International, will join with GZDOC to promote more exchange, cooperation and trade in the documentary industry.

As one of the names at GZDOC, the Golden Kapok Documentary Film Screenings already kicked off on Dec. 2 and will run until Dec. 17, screening over 100 documentary films in 26 venues around Guangzhou, including most movie theaters, culture and art centers.

Some of the hot documentary films include ‘Notes on Blindness’ from the UK, ‘Inner Me’ from Italy, ‘Muhi - Generally Temporary’ from Israel and Germany, ‘Two Worlds’ from Poland, ‘Smile’ from Spain, ‘Jabalí’ from Costa Rica, ‘AGORA’ from Brazil, ‘Blindfold’ from Russia, ‘Still Tomorrow’ from China, etc.

The tickets for the Golden Kapok Documentary Film Screenings range in price from the lowest at only RMB 10, with the highest no more than RMB 60.
