Exhibition tells the story of Guangzhou and Linköping’s friendship

Featuring photos of the friendly exchanges between Guangzhou and Linköping over the past 20 years as well as 40 award-winning bookmark designs by youngsters from both cities, an exhibition telling the story of southern China and her friends in northern Europe is being held at Guangzhou Library until Dec. 8.

2017 marks the 20th anniversary of the partnership between Guangzhou and Linköping, the fifth biggest city in Sweden. This exhibition forms part of the 20th anniversary celebration.

On the afternoon of Nov. 30, guests from Guangzhou and Linköping attended the exhibition’s opening ceremony at Guangzhou Library. At the ceremony, Guangzhou Library and Linköping City Library signed a Memorandum of Understanding to co-host more activities in future to further promote the relationship between the two cities.

Mr. Fang Jiazhong, the Director of the Guangzhou Library, said that communication between Guangzhou Library and Linköping City Library began with the establishment of the sister cities’ relationship 20 years ago, and the activities co-hosted by the two libraries as well as the signing of the MOU are evidence of the good relations fostered between the two cities.

Ms. Lena Axelsson, Head of Linköping City Library, expressed that it is important for Linköping to have such a special relationship with the city of Guangzhou, and expanding and deepening the relationship between two libraries is a very important part of the collaboration between the two cities.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of friendship, Helena Balthammar, Mayor of Linkoping, headed up a delegation visiting Guangzhou from November 29 to December 1. During the visit, Wen Guohui, Mayor of Guangzhou, and Helena Balthammar signed an MoU to further cooperation between two cities. They also witnessed the MoUs signed between Guangzhou University and Linkoping University and also between Guangzhou Library and Linkoping City Library.

Related event: Guest speakers from South China Normal University will be invited to give a lecture on the characteristics of Swedish documentary film on Dec. 9.
