A new shuttle-bus line started operation yesterday November 15, connecting Nansha district with Baiyun International Airport. The line enables passengers to skip the previous 3 transfer points and shorten their travel time from over 2 hours to less than 90 minutes.
An officer of Nansha District said the shuttle service ran from 5.30 am. to 10 pm., and covered most blocks in the district starting from Jiaomen and heading to the airport via Yuwotou. “Right now we just have one bus every hour but we may increase the frequency in the future based on passengers’ feedback,” said the officer.
Furthermore, the Nansha shuttle line is the first battery electric vehicle (BEV) route connecting Baiyun Airport. “The electric charge on these buses is enough for a round trip between Nansha and the airport. There’re also charging piles in the airport and along the road,” said Zheng Haixing, manager of operation department of Airport Express.
According Guangzhou’s government plans, 90 percent of buses in the city will be BEVs by the end of 2018. Known for its strength in green development, Nansha will have more electric buses soon in the future.
As one of Guangdong’s Free Trade Zones and the sub-center of Guangzhou, Nansha has been rapidly improving its infrastructure construction and strengthening its connections with the surrounding areas.
For example, the travel time from Nansha’s Jiaomen to Guangzhou South Railway Station will be shortened from 80 minutes to just 50 minutes once road optimization is completed next year. Nansha will also have more bus routes to offer direct link to other districts in Guangzhou, such as Haizhu and Fangcun.
