It is the first time that the fair has set up a special exhibition space for companies in poor areas, offering them free booths. The move is an echo to the State Council's strategic call to promote poverty relief.

Wang Yongbin, chairman of He Hutchison Green Food Development Company in Shiqian county of Guizhou province, said it was the first time for them to participate in Canton Fair and he wished to use this platform to sell chili products to more overseas countries. Based on the business model of "base plus farmers", the company has helped chili farmers earn more than 48,560 yuan ($7,310) per acre.

Lanzhou Xukang Pharmaceutical is another company taking part in Canton Fair for the first time. "We wish to sell our herbs and herbal products to more foreign clients and expand our global market share," said Wang Xingping, sales manager of the company. According to Wang, herb planting and processing has become a special industry in Gansu province and the industry has helped many farmers shake off poverty.
