Cultural events in Guangzhou during National Day holiday

The last week-long public holiday of the year, the National Day holiday, finally arrives. If you don’t want to travel far, we recommend the following cultural events in Guangzhou for you.

From local culture to exotic charm, from youthful animation to old tradition, you will get to experience these all by attending the following events.

Apart from what we are going to present in this article, there are dozens of cultural events and exhibitions ongoing in exhibition halls, gallery, museums, libraries, theaters and commercial districts around Guangzhou. Take your pick!

2017 China International Comics Festival Expo

Dates: October 1 - 5, 2017

Venue: Hall No. 4-6, Poly World Trade Center Expo (广州保利世贸中心博览会4/5/6号馆)

Ticket: RMB 60 per person

Recommendation: Cosplay, eSports, ACG dance, comic stars greet and meet, signing sessions, comic works exhibition, etc.

How to get there: Take metro Line 8 and get off at Pazhou station (琶洲).


2017 Guangzhou International Shopping Festival

Dates: September 29 - October 28, 2017

Venue: Tianhe Road business area (including Grandview Mall, TeeMall, OneLinkWalk and TaiKoo Hui)

Recommendation: This year’s event is all about Canada. It features more than 100 famous Canadian brands and will also showcase Canada's various cultures and social history. For instance, dioramas featuring Canadian maple forests, Niagara Falls, Indigenous tribes and Bethune village will be set up in Grandview Mall. Furthermore, Sino-Canadian art shows including an opera and symphony will be held in Parc Central. Other activities will cover a street music festival, street dances and performances given by Canadian bands Hello Canada and Beatleband.

How to get there: Take metro Line 1 or 3 and get off at Tiyu Xilu station (体育西路) or Shipaiqiao station (石牌桥).


The sixth Baiyun (Guangzhou) Fiery Dragon Folk Culture Festival

Dates: September 29 - October 5, 2017

Venues: Shima Village of Junhe, Qinghu, Shima and Xiamao in Baiyun District (白云区均禾、清湖、石马、夏茅)

Recommendation: Fiery dragon parade, rubbing DIY, clay dragon DIY, Fiery dragon pop-up book DIY, etc.

How to get there: Take metro Line 2 or 3 and get off at Jiahe Wanggang station, then transfer to bus No. 796, and get off at Shima Chongbian Street South (石马涌边大街南), then walk about 200 meters to get to the main venue in Shima Village of Junhe (均禾石马村).


2017 Yuntai Garden Lantern and Flower Show

Dates: September 27 - November 5, 2017

Venue: Yuntai Garden, Baiyun Mountain

Recommendation: The lantern show consists of 17 lantern installations with three themes, namely ‘ancient forest’, ‘fantastic beast’, and ‘human and nature’. The garden is also full of many kinds of flowers as always.

How to get there: Take the following buses and get off at Yuntai Garden (云台花园), Bus No. 24, 63, 240, 245, 285, or 522; or take the following buses to get off at Baiyun Cableway (白云索道), Bus No. 32, 46, 60, 127, 175, 179, 199, 223, 240, 241, 257, 257(Express), 285, 298, 540, 543, 841, 891, University Town Line 1, Peak Express Line 16, Peak Express Line 17, Bus No. 35(Night).


Floral art exhibition at Yuexiu Park

Time: 9:30-16:00, until October 7, 2017

Venue: Yuexiu Park (inside the park)

Recommendation: flower show, 12 sets of large-scale mosaic cultures, flower themed post office, postcard DIY, and more.

How to get there: Take Metro Line 2 and get off at Yuexiu Park station (越秀公园).
