Guangdong planners have established 77 transportation routes linking Guangzhou with seven nearby cities to form a one-hour city circle, among which 63 have been built and 14 are still under construction.
The city is planning to build a comprehensive transportation system to connect with the surrounding cities. Covering all means of transportation, the system includes national rail, intercity rail, metro, expressways, provincial roads, urban roads, water and air transportation and aviation. All these intercity connections are shoring up Guangzhou's status as the center of the transportation network in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay area.
Guangzhou and Dongguan
According to the 13th Five-Year Plan for the Development of the Transportation System of Dongguan, Dongguan Metro Line 1 will connect with Guangzhou Metro Line 5 and the Foshan-Dongguan intercity rail will link with Guangzhou Metro Line 3, 4 and 7. Also, the Guangzhou-Dongguan-Shenzhen intercity rail will establish Pazhou and Xintang stations. Eventually it will take Guangzhouers only about 15 minutes to get from Panyu to Dongguan.
Guangzhou and Foshan
Guangzhou and Foshan are jointly building a “super city” that will include inter-connectivity via 11 intercity rails.
Guangzhou and Zhongshan
Guangzhou authorities announced in May that Metro Line 18 will extend southwards to Zhongshan and northwards to the Baiyun airport. In the future, the metro will travel up to 160 kilometers per hour, improving transportation and links to facilitate the movement of innovation resources between Guangzhou and Zhongshan.
Guangzhou and Jiangmen
A total of 200 million yuan has been allocated this year to start the construction of the Guangzhou-Foshan-Jiangmen-Zhuhai intercity rail at the end of this year, according to the implementation plans for the Pearl River Delta released by the Guangdong Provincial Government. Once completed, the trip between the two cities will take just 30 minutes, lopping 20 minutes off the existing train time. What’s more, Guangzhou metro can directly link to this intercity rail.
Guangzhou and Zhuhai
The Guangzhou-Zhongshan-Zhuhai-Mocao intercity rail with an estimated investment of 36.6 billion yuan is a transportation project jointly planned by Guangzhou, Zhongshan and Zhuhai. The line is expected to have 152.6 kilometers in length with 15 stations. What’s more, according to the plans, this intercity rail will link with Guangzhou Metro Line 15 and 18.
Guangzhou and Shenzhen
The Guangzhou-Dongguan-Shenzhen intercity rail is expected to open this year, with construction on its Pazhou branch line starting within the year. After its completion, Guangzhou residents can travel directly to Shenzhen from Pazhou via the intercity rail.
