China, Russia vow closer people-to-people cooperation in Guangdong

‘People-to-people’ cooperation between China and Russia has entered a new phrase of maturity, stability and depth, Chinese Vice Premier Liu Yandong said on Tuesday.

Liu made these remarks during the 18th session of the China-Russia Committee on People-to-People Exchange and Cooperation. The meeting was held in Guangzhou this year, and was hosted by Liu Yandong and Russian Deputy Prime Minister Olga Golodets.

Party Chief of Guangdong Hu Chunhua, Education Minister Chen Baosheng and Governor of Guangdong, Ma Xingrui attended the meeting.

“Since established, the committee has organized a variety of events to deepen communication and cooperation between China and Russia,” said Liu Yandong, “we have made fruitful progress in people-to-people cooperation this year with the theme of Media Exchange.”

Liu Yandong also stressed Sino-Russian cooperation would see more opportunities under the Belt and Road Initiative and the cooperation with the Eurasian Economic Union.

Olga Golodets said Sino-Russian relations have grown closer than ever before. “We can further cooperation in fields such as education, culture, healthcare, sports, tourism, media and etc., and contribute to even closer relationship between two countries,” she said.

During the meeting, Liu Yandong and Olga Golodets also attended a ceremony welcoming in the inaugural semester of Shenzhen MSU-BIT University; the first Sino-Russian university in China.

They also attended and participated in the forum held among university presidents from China and Russia, the opening ceremony of Russian Cultural Festival and the launch of a Sino-Russian co-produced film. The delegates also witnessed 8 new cooperation agreements signed between two counties.
