Shenzhen-Zhongshan ferry line inaugurated

Ferry services between Fuyong Ferry Terminal in Shenzhen and Zhongshan Port in Zhongshan will commence operation Friday, offering eight ferry liner services between the two cities on a daily basis.

A single trip by ferry will take up to 45 minutes, much shorter than driving between the two cities, which usually takes two hours without congestion.

Free rides will be offered for the first three days and each person can reserve two seats for free on the website, www.zspassenger.com.cn, or WeChat account of the ferry operator, Zhongshan-Hong Kong Passenger Shipping Cooperation Co. Ltd.

Travelers from Zhongshan who are flying via the Shenzhen airport can save at least one hour by taking ferry to Fuyong Ferry Terminal, which is close to the airport.

According to the schedule, the earliest ferry from Zhongshan to Shenzhen departs at 7:45 a.m. and operates at three-hour intervals.

The four ferry services leaving Shenzhen operate between 9:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m., also at three-hour intervals.

The fare for adults is 120 yuan (US$17.73) per person for a single trip and 220 yuan for a round trip.

In another development, a government delegation from Shenzhen visited its counterpart in Zhongshan earlier this week to discuss the feasibility of constructing a Metro link.

The two sides will promote the Metro link by making use of the cross-river railway project of the Shenzhen-Zhaoqing High-speed Railway, which is listed in Shenzhen’s 13th Five-Year Plan.

If the plan is approved, Metro riders from Qianhai in Shenzhen will be able to reach Cuiheng New Area in Zhongshan in 15 minutes.

The Metro link will start in Qianhai, share the river-crossing rail with the Shenzhen-Zhaoqing High-speed Railway and end at Zhongshan CBD. It will be connected with Zhongshan Metro Line 1.

Work on the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Corridor, a bridge and tunnel project across the Pearl River, has started. According to the schedule, the tunnel project and artificial island project will start in November and the bridge project will start next March.
