Government officers, entrepreneurs and scholars brainstorm for Greater Bay Area

The 2017 Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Cooperation Forum was held in Zhongshan from July 27-28, pushing ahead the development of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The forum was attended by government officers including Leung Chun-ying, Vice Chairman of 12th National Committee of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Huang Huahua, member of Standing Committee of National People's Congress, Yuan Baocheng, Vice-Governor of Guangdong and Cheung Kin-chung, Chief Secretary for Administration in Hong Kong. And it attracted over 400 experts from academia, associations and enterprises in the Bay Area.

“The key to construct the Greater Bay Area lies in creating an innovative mechanism under the ‘One country, two systems’ policy and the Hong Kong Basic Law, so as to let talents, capitals, commodities and information freely flow among cities,” said Leung Chun-ying, vice-chairman of the 12th NCCPPCC.

Yuan Baocheng, Vice Governor of Guangdong, firstly conveyed the congratulation on the forum from Ma Xingrui, Governor of Guangdong, and said Guangdong government will further cooperation with Hong Kong and Macao under the Greater Bay Area framework agreement.

“To develop the Greater Bay Area, Guangdong will devote to the connection of production factors and infrastructure, and jointly build a world-class innovation center, financial center and a better community with Hong Kong and Macao,” said Yuan Baocheng.


Representing Guangdong’s Association for Promotion of Cooperation between Guangdong, Hong Kong & Macao, Huang Huahua appointed Cheung Kin-chung as an honored advisor during the forum.

The forum also invited Zhang Xiaoqiang, Vice Chairman of the China Center for International Economic Exchanges, and Li Guanghui, Vice President at the Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation at the Ministry of Commerce, to give presentations, analyzing the urban planning, construction measures and economic effects of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Besides, some attendees visited the industrial parks in Zhongshan, researching for its investment environment and strengths in developing the Greater Bay Area.
