Metro lines to link Guangzhou with more cities in PRD

Currently, GuangFo metro line connects Guangzhou with Foshan. In the coming years, more metro lines will link Guangzhou with Dongguan (detail of Guangzhou-Dongguan Metro Link), Zhongshan and Qingyuan.

The moves are expected to cut the travel time from Guangzhou to other cities in PRD to within one hour and will strengthen the connection among cities in the Guangdong- Hong Kong- Macao Great Bay Area.

According to the planning, Guangzhou will link Zhongshan via the Guangzhou Metro line 18, which will enable passages to travel from Zhongshan to Nansha Free Trade Zone and Zhujiang New Town.

For Qingyuan, Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport will connect with the city via the Guangzhou Metro Line 18 and Guangzhoubei Railway Station will link it via the Guangzhou Metro Line 8.

Besides, Guangzhou metro will have more connections with Foshan metro through linking 13 Guangzhou Lines with 10 Foshan Lines.

These grand intercity metro programs are parts of Guangdong’s scheme to facilitate its infrastructure construction. Based on the province’s thirteenth five year plan, Guangdong will build a sophisticated transportation network by 2020, through which passengers will be able to get from one PRD cities to any of the others within one hour.

Apart from the metro projects, Guangdong has also invested 368.7 bln yuan in 21 intercity train programs to connect the PRD cities.

“Infrastructural construction is the first step to build the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area,” said Lin Jiang, Deputy Dean of Institute of Free Trade Zones of Sun-Yat-Sun University, “the increasingly convenient transportation network will encourage logistic development and talent flows among the area, and eventually contribute to the integration of trade and investment.”
