Shenzhen Bay Port added 10 E-channels for visitors to HK

Recently, Shenzhen Bay Port opened 10 new E-channels for visitors to Hong Kong, to deal with the passenger flow peak to enter Hong Kong in summer.

E-channels, also known as the automated passenger clearance system, is a border control system to speed up border immigration processes whether it be by land, air or sea via the use of self-service kiosks employed at various border control points.

Foreign e-passport holders with residence permits valid for at least six months can use the E-channels after they file their finger print information with Exit and Entry Frontier Inspection departments.

To use the E-channels, passengers only need to put the e-passports on the card reader and enter the e-Channel. Next, passengers should place their registered thumb or finger flat on the center of the fingerprint scanner, as shown in the following illustration.

After successful fingerprint verification, passengers can leave the E-channel.

The operating hours of Shenzhen Bay Port is from 6.30 am to 12.00 mid-night and the peak hours of departure is from 8.30 am to 11.30 am.
