Peacock has always been a classic stage imagery pursued and created by Chinese famous choreographer and dancer Yang Liping. From “Peacock Princess”, “The Soul of Peacock”, to “Love of the Peacock”, Yang Liping endows peacock with different glamour and charm on the stage via unique dance language and life beauty at different periods.
Dance drama “The Peacock” is created and directed by Yang Liping. It has been staged for hundreds of times at home and abroad since its debut in 2012. In the drama, peacock is not only a bird, but also a person and a member of all living things in this humanistic world. The drama is the quintessence of Yang’s forty-year dance art, the fruit of her pains of half a lifetime, and the ultimate inquiries of life.
“The Peacock” is composed of four chapters, titled Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter. It symbolizes life’s journey reflecting a story about growth, human nature and love. “Peacock of Winter” debuted in 2016 is adapted from Chapter Winter, an independent one. It is about dying, death, nirvana and rebirth. This drama will present brand new thinking and inquiry.
