On July 6, the Consulate General of Sri Lanka held a Ceylon tea party in celebration of the 150th Anniversary of Ceylon Tea at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Guangzhou.

Meanwhile, The Colombo Tea Traders Association and Sri Lanka Tea Board are celebrating this historic occasion with several events throughout 2017.

China is the "Cradle of Tea Civilization". China's green tea is a household name around the world and Sri Lanka is famous for its black tea. "The trade in tea between the two countries would lead to a partnership of unprecedented strength and stature between China and Sri Lanka", said Mrs. Shereen Shanika Dissanayake, Consul General of Sri Lanka in Guangzhou.

In the past decade, imports of foreign tea to China have grown more than six fold and Sri Lanka holds around 40% shares in the market. The year 2017 is indeed extraordinary for bilateral relationship between China and Sri Lanka due to the celebrations of the 60th Anniversary of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and China.
