With representative newspapers of Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Taipei, Macao and Hong Kong as drawing paper, Water Poon painted the famous landmarks, natural sceneries and cultural landscapes of these six cities to show his unique annotation of “Chinese Dream”.

56 paintings by Water Poon, Hong Kong’s artist, photographer, designer and film director, are being displayed at the 3rd floor South Glass Box of TaiKoo Hui, Guangzhou from June 28 to July 5, 2017.

With invitation, visitors who view the exhibition at TaiKoo Hui can get a copy of Chinese Dream · Drawing Collection of Water Poon. Water Poon will also be there to meet the viewers on June 28 and July 1.

Why use newspaper as drawing paper? Water Poon said using newspaper as drawing paper is environment friendly, and more importantly, newspaper, with non-negligible historical value, is an “endorsement” for the painting, enriching the painting as well. Water Poon also hope this can draw the public’s attention to newspaper art and raise their recognition of the value of traditional medium newspaper.

Water Poon’s 56 paintings about Chinese Dream imply that China’s 56 ethnic groups construct the same Chinese Dream together, hoping for prosperity and peace.

Related officials of Guangzhou Journalists Association and Hong Kong Federation of Journalists, the organizers of the exhibition, both expressed that the exhibition is of great significance on the occasion of the 20th Anniversary of Hong Kong’s Return to China. Hong Kong and Guangzhou have been very close all the time, especially in cultural exchange. The exhibition serves as a brand new bridge of communication between Guangzhou and Hong Kong, about art, and more than art.
