GAC, Huawei to work on new vehicles

Chinese auto giant Guangzhou Automobile Group (GAC) and smartphone and telecoms equipment maker Huawei Technologies Co Ltd announced on June 21 they would join hands in a win-win development.

According to the strategic cooperation agreement sealed between the two companies, both sides will cooperate in many areas ranging from enterprise management, cloud computing, big data, internet of vehicles, smart driving, new energy to global business.

Insiders said that the cooperation between GAC and Huawei, two leading enterprises in their respective sectors, will accelerate the pace of technological breakthroughs in intelligent and internet-connected vehicles.

Huawei has a competitive information and communications technology (ICT) portfolio of end-to-end solutions in telecoms and enterprise networks, devices, and cloud computing. It will help GAC make changes to adapt to the age of big data.

"Cooperation with Huawei will be a boost to realize GAC's goal of manufacturing vehicles featuring electric, and are internationalized and internet-connected," said GAC president Zeng Qinghong.

Xu Zhijun, rotating chief executive officer of Huawei, said that internet-connection, intelligent driving and new energy will reconstruct the automobile manufacturing industrial chain.

"New energy and internet-connection are trends of future vehicles," Zeng said. "GAC has been actively exploring potential in this respect and endeavors to be a trust-worthy creator of mobile life."

Huawei said it will leverage its advantages to provide technological support for GAC's development via cloud computing and big data.

Both sides will also carry out a series of trainings and exchanges in strategic planning, technologies, marketing and practices, according to the cooperation agreement.
