2017 Fortune Global Forum, a gateway to boost international cooperation

The 2017 Fortune Global Forum will be held in Guangzhou on December 6-8, with the theme as "Openness & Innovation: Shaping the Global Economy". Since December, 2016, Guangzhou has held 11 promotion seminars over the world, including Beijing, Paris, Hong Kong, New York, Washington DC, Tokyo, Singapore, Taipei, Chicago, Munich and London. It attracts nearly 1,500 enterprises from home and abroad, many of which are Global 500 companies.

From Paris to London, global mainstream media eye on Guangzhou’s promotion seminars for the 2017 Fortune Global Forum and the city's development. In June, Guangzhou held the seminars in Chicago, Munich and London.

On June 8 (local time), the Chicago Tribune (a daily newspaper based in Chicago) publishes an article titled "For U.S. Companies in Guangzhou, the future is spelled I.A.B.", showing how Guangzhou uncovers vast opportunities for global enterprises with its I.A.B. Industry.

Later on June 14, as Guangzhou promoted the 2017 Fortune Global Forum in London, the Daily Telegraph published an article titled "Guangzhou's Industrial Upgrading Unleashes Innovation Potential." It was echoed immediately by counterparts of six other countries — the USA, Canada, Germany, Japan, Thailand and Pakistan in six languages on the same day.

For instance, CNBC made a feature programme called "Live Guangzhou" during Guangzhou delegation promoted the Fortune Global Forum in London. Also, CNBC hopes to set up an international studio in Guangzhou for showcasing Guangzhou, PRD cities' innovation enterprises in future.

The overseas seminars help Guangzhou and its local enterprises to go global. For another, many global companies begin to know more about Guangzhou through the activities of 2017 Fortune Global Forum.

For instance, a round table discussion titled "The UK-China Opportunity: Innovation, Investment and Impact" was held as part of the roadshow in London, on which over 50 UK enterprises' representatives have a recognition of Nansha Area of Guangdong FTZ and Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

According to Mr. Peter Bonfield, Chairman of NXP Semiconductors, they find Nansha as a new gateway to Chinese market through the seminar. He said, increasing number of European enterprises want to find a place in China where can provide more business opportunities. Noel Quinn, chief executive of global commercial banking at HSBC, also sees China as a huge opportunity for that, especially in the post-Brexit era.

On the roadshow held in New York, FedEx CEO Fred Smith said their company has set up an Asian-Pacific Logistic Center in Guangzhou. Many FedEx's clients enter China via this center which now has become a strategic hub. He said China is transforming from export-oriented to consumption-driven development, and could open up more sectors, such as transportation.

Karan Bhatia, vice-president of global affairs for General Electric feels amazed about the “Guangzhou Speed” for finishing projects. "It only takes 18 months to have the work done with Guangzhou, while it might cost 5-8 years in America," said Karan on the overseas roadshow held in Washington DC.

It is said that over 20 CEOs of global top enterprises have promised to attend the 2017 Global Fortune Forum at the end of this year. More international well-known enterprises will be attracted to this event as the upcoming promotion seminars held.
