Award-winning works from four regions start tour in Guangdong

On the evening of May 22, rounds of applause were given to one and another wonderful performances at the Friendship Theater in Guangzhou. These performances were Galaxy Award-winning works and presented by artists from four regions in China, including Guangdong, Shanghai, Chongqing and Shaanxi.

Starting from May 22, over a dozen of Galaxy Award-winning works from these four regions will be on tour in six cities in Guangdong, with the first stop being Guangzhou, then Dongguan, Zhongshan, Shenzhen, Maoming and Foshan.

Participating works for the tour are of various genres and down to earth. For example, contemporary dance “Sunday” is about a family of three delivering bottled water on Sunday. Crosstalk allegro “Legacy” tells a touching story of ninety-year-old Tan Yinyi adopting abandoned baby with a disability and entrusting the baby to her relatives on her deathbed. Comic opera “Not One Cent Less” narrates a story of an honest heaver named Zheng Dingxiang from Chongqing. Huayin Lao Qiang Opera “The Round Sun and Crescent Moon in the Sky” is a work with original ecology and listed in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage.

Each stop of the tour also features different highlights according to the practical situation in the city. On May 23, the tour will be held in Dongguan, adding Galaxy Award-winning and -nominated works from Dongguan. On May 24 in Zhongshan, children’s dances from Maoming and the host city will be invited to perform on the same stage. On My 25, the tour will arrive in Shenzhen, and works about migrant labors such as “Night in Shenzhen” will be performed accordingly.

The tour is co-hosted by the Department of Culture of Guangdong Province, Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture, Raidio, Film & TV, Chongqing Municipal Culture Commission and Shaanxi Provincial Department of Culture. Tickets of the shows will be given out for free, aiming to provide common people with more diversified art activities and promote art exchange between different regions.

The Galaxy Award (群星奖), along with the Splendor Award (文华奖) are two of the country’s most established awards celebrating theatrical artworks. The Galaxy Award honors amateur artists and community culture, while the Splendor Award is given to professional artists to recognize their excellence in paintings, theater performances, dance, singing, folk operas and other art forms.
