Guangzhou, as a National Central City and international business center, has strengthened financial cooperation with countries along the "Belt and Road". To go global, enterprises in Guangzhou are increasingly inclined to invest in regions along the "Belt and Road", such as Southeast Asia, Middle East and Africa.
According to statistics, Guangzhou gained a economic growth from the trade and investment with countries along the "Belt and Road" since 2013. From 2013 to 2016, enterprises in Guangzhou set up 87 companies (institutions) and invested 805 million dollars in those countries, increases by 46.1% annually. Up to now, Guangzhou has established 166 companies (institutions) and invested 2.1 billion USD in those countries.
Last year, Guangzhou set up 31 companies (institutions) in Belt and Road countries with a rise of 76.0% year on year. In the first quarter of this year, Guangzhou has increased investment in those countries. The number of projects are up to 11 and the amount of investment is 160 million USD, increases fivefold over the same period last year.
On August 2016, China-Europe freight train was opened and the number of it has been 13 by the end of 2016. It departs once a week and carries goods, valuing 40.52 million USD, which creates a new way of goods export.
The government has invested 10.45 million Yuan to support 16 technological projects cooperated with Belt and Road countries, in the field of biomedicine technology, intelligent manufacturing technology, and new materials, etc. This will bring the investment over 27 million Yuan in total.
From 2013 to 2016, 2.28 million tourists from Belt and Road countries visited Guangzhou and 2.63 million tourists from Guangzhou also went to those countries. Guangzhou has established a sister city relationship with 13 cities of Belt and Road countries from 2013 to 2016. Up to now, the total number of Guangzhou’s sister cities along the Belt and Road reaches to 31.
