Good news. The first phase of Qixinggang Ancient Coast Science Park has been finished and the park is ready to open to the public soon.

The new was announced at the commemoration meeting of the 80th anniversary of discovering Qixinggang Ancient Coast in Haizhu District, Guangzhou on May 16, 2017. About 100 experts and scholars attended the meeting to make an on-site inspection and discuss the past and present of the marine abrasion landform at the coast.

At the meeting, a unveiling ceremony was held for the statue of Wu Shangshi, a professor of Sun Yat-Sen University, who discovered the marine abrasion landform at the southern foothill of Qixinggang on May 14, 1937, exactly 80 years ago.

These sea cliffs, marine abrasion caves and platforms are ruins that were scoured by sea wave 6,000 years ago. That means the coast of South China Sea was located here in the park at that time, and the cropland and green field in front of the ruins were then boundless seas.

At present, the coastline of Guangzhou region has moved about 100 kilometers towards south. This is the first ancient coastal landform discovered inland in the Pearl River Delta so far. It is also one of the very few and rare ancient coast relic that is situated far inland.

Before this, the well-known ancient sea coast relic in Italy which is only 50 kilometers away from the present coast was considered to be the furthest inland.
