Floral Whisper along the Silk Road | Guangzhou’s 2,000-year-stories attracts global media attention

On May 15, five letters were sent from five national floral emblems of five countries in Asia, Europe, America and Africa along the Maritime Silk Road, expressing good wishes to Guangzhou for setting sail on the 21st Maritime Silk Road through the floral whisper, and making the "World Flower City" become the focus both at home and abroad.

The article of Kapok's floral whisper, Guangzhou, I Inspire You with Passion, published in the Argentinean newspaper the Clarín, demonstrates how the city opens to the world by telling the legend of the “hero flower” of Kapok, the vigor of “King Kapok” at Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, the Persian-style cultural relics unearthed at the Archaeological Site Museum of Nanyue Palace, the millennia passage at Beijing Road Pedestrian Street and the Canton Fair, the symbol and barometer of China’s foreign trade.

 


The article of Jasmine’s floral whisper, Guangzhou, I Adorn You with Elegance, published in the Pakistani newspaper the News, tells how beautiful the city is. The piece introduces the story of Ye Xi Ming renamed after a local florist lady, Su Xin, and the Flower Ferry which witnessed the development of Guangzhou’s flower trade that already took place during the Tang and Song dynasties.The ancient Port of Huangpu, the only way to the Maritime Silk Road, the Haizhu Wetland Park in the city with flowers in full bloom all year round, the new landmark of Guangzhou Tower and Guangzhou Internet Innovation Gathering Area are also brought up.

 


The article of Lotus’ floral whisper, Guangzhou, I Embrace You with Vigor, published in the Egyptian newspaper the Al-Ahram, expresses how vigorous the city can be. It tells the famous ThirteenHongs, an ancient coast for people from the West and the scenic Lychee Bay of white lotus and red lychee. On top of Cantonese cuisine and dim-sum served by Panxi Restaurant, Shameen, the romantic European complex is also referred to in the piece.


The article of Rose’s floral whisper, Guangzhou, I Embrace You with Love, published in the British newspaper the Daily Telegraph, describes what an inclusive city Guangzhou is. To show that, the 800-year-old Qi QiaoJie (literally, a festival to pray for craftsmanship), the unique rose pattern in Kwon-glazed porcelain that combines the western and Chinese cultures and the romantic Flower City Square, or Guangzhou’s “living room” are brought up. Moreover, the piece mentions 2017 THERO International Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition and the city’s pride, Tianhe CBD, a world-class business portal, ranks first among China's urban CBDs in terms of output value.


The article of orchid’s floral whisper, I Welcome You With My Friendship, published in Singapore’s The Straits Times, demonstrates Guangzhou’s friendliness, by giving several examples: the Canton Orchid Garden, a place used to receive national leaders and important foreign guests, among whom, were Nixon and Lee Kuan Yew;the Spring Festival Flower Market, a unique folk landscape in China;the paintings on the rice paper, the postcards of China in the 18th and 19th century; the expanding “circle of friends” of Guangzhou,as a hub, whose network connects to the whole world, and with an increasing of International Sister Cities.

 


On 16th May, Guangzhou’s letter of reply Guangzhou, Flower City in Bloom, to the Floral Whisper along the Silk Road, tells the whole world about Guangzhou’s splendid history as the“birthplace of the Maritime Silk Road” and the “Millennium Commercial City” and its unique charm of “Openness, Beauty, Vigor Vitality, Inclusiveness and Friendliness”now as an international exchange center and anintersection of International trades.

Guangzhou is one of the most developed cities and the earliest ones to reform and open up in China, and has been regarded as the "window of China's opening up to the outside world".

Through the “Belt and Road” Initiative, Guangzhou is now speeding up its opening-up and innovative development, and rising quickly as an international hub and an important bond between China and countries and regions along the “21st Century Maritime Silk Road.”

In 2016, the city's GDP reached about 1.96 trillionyuan, around the same level as that of Singapore and Hong Kong. And its per capita GDP exceeded 20,000 U.S. dollars.

Guangzhou will continue to attract the attention of the world in the next few years. Fortune Global Forum 2017, World
Routes 2018 and the World Ports Conference 2019 will be held in Guangzhou.

Known as the "Flower City",Guangzhou,China’s "Southern Gate," enjoys beautiful ecology,with evergreen grass and water as well as flowers in full bloomthroughout the year. The Maritime Silk Road, unfailing for thousand years, is bringing the "Millennium BusinessCity" continuous vitality, and instilling into the "World Flower City" new impetus.
