Guangzhou starts construction of 5 mega projects

On April 27, five large projects started construction in Guangzhou, including GAC group’s industrial park for NEVs, Cisco’s smart city project, etc. It is to expand the city’s international cooperation and to serve Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area development.

In 2017, Guangzhou plans to invest more than 130 billion yuan on over 300 key projects about infrastructure, industry and people’s livelihood, 101 of which have started building in the first three months of 2017.

According to Wen Guohui, mayor of Guangzhou, during the 13th Five Year Plan (2016-2020), the city meets a golden opportunity for development. Guangzhou will further cooperation with famous enterprises at home and aboard by creating the world-class international business environment.

Guangzhou has a great attraction for multinational companies and innovation enterprises with high internationalization, convenient transportation and efficient government service. Cisco will promote the project construction and lure more supporting enterprises to settle in Guangzhou, said Chuck Robbins, CEO of Cisco.

Backgrounder of the five mega projects:

Cisco (Guangzhou) Smart City: With investment of over 20 billion yuan, the project devotes to building up a cloud platform to connect key factors for the construction of high-standard smart industries.

GAC New Energy Vehicles Industrial Park: With investment over 45 billion yuan, it is built for new energy and intelligent connectivity vehicles, aiming to boost its business amid the booming domestic demand for the environmentally friendly cars.

Hengli Island Development Project at Nansha:With investment of over 24 billion yuan, that area will help Nansha’s Pearl Bay to become a financial and commercial development experiment zone, giving priorities to headquarters economy, financial services and commercial services in future.

Line 18 of Guangzhou Metro: With a total investment of 46 billion yuan, the Line 18 is a key transportation infrastructure project to link Nansha District and downtown of Guangzhou. After construction, the traffic time will be cut into 30 minutes.

Headquarter of China Railway Tunnel Group (CTG): CTG will spend 980 million yuan to set up its headquarter and 25 sub-institutions including research institute, device center at Nansha.
