Guangzhou ranks high in Global Financial Centres Index

Guangzhou, ranked 37th among global financial centers, according to the latest Global Financial Centres Index (GFCI) released on March 28. It is the first time for the city listed in this index.

London, New York, Singapore, Hong Kong, Tokyo remain the five leading global financial centres. For Chinese mainland, Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Qingdao and Dalian are on the list.

The statistic shows that the added value of Guangzhou’s finance industry reached to 180 billion yuan (26.12 billion USD) in 2016, becomes one of the top 5 pillar industries in the city and the main engine for economic growth.

The latest GFCI tracked 88 financial centers globally, taking five areas including business environment, financial sector development, infrastructure factors, human capital, reputation and general factors.

The GFCI is compiled and published twice a year by Z/Yen Group (a British think tank) and China Development Institute to examine the major financial centres' global competitiveness.
