Westminster attacker named as Khalid Masood

The man the police believe to be responsible for the Wednesday attack in Westminster has been formally identified as Khalid Masood, Scotland Yard said on Thursday.

BBC reported that Masood, aged 52, was born in Kent and detectives believe he was most recently living in the West Midlands.

In a statement, the Metropolitan Police said there was "no prior intelligence about his intent to mount a terrorist attack".

However, he was known to the police and had a range of previous convictions for assaults, including possession of offensive weapons and public order offences.

The statement added: "He has not been convicted for any terrorism offences."
