7 wetland parks approved as national projects, and they’re just nearby!

Spring, the season perfect for hiking, is now approaching.

The State Forestry Bureau recently approved of 134 pilot works to construct national wetland parks around the country, 7 programs among which are located in Guangdong.

“Guangdong has made break throughs in wetland protection and construction in recent years,” said Guangdong Forestry Bureau, “23 wetland parks were newly built in the Pearl River Delta in 2016, adding up to 190 wetland parks in the province. And now we have 7 national wetland parks under construction.”

Liannan terrace

  • Liannan Terrace is one of the most important environmental projects in the Pearl River Delta. To develop it as a national wetland park, actions are needed to protect its special ecosystem, culture, and to raise its economic effectiveness.
  • Liannan is located in the northwest of Guangdong province. And it’s about 280km from Guangzhou and 400km from Shenzhen.

Kaiping Peacock Lake Wetland Park

  • Kaiping, a county of Jiangmen city, is just located in the Pearl River Delta. It’s about 130km from Guangzhou and 200km from Shenzhen.
  • Kaiping is also famous for its specific architecture built by the overseas Chinese.

Xinhui Bird Paradise

  • Xinhui is also a county of Jiangmen city located in the Pearl River Delta. The bird paradise is about 120km from Guangzhou and 160km from Shenzhen.
  • Xinhui bird paradise is famous because of an article written by China’s renowed writer, Ba Jin. And it's always inspiring artists and writers in every generation. 
  • A banyan tree planted over 390 years ago has now grown into a 20-thousand square-meter forest, homing to tens of thousands of birds.

Sihui Suijiang Wetland Park

  • Sihui is located in the central Guangdong and northwest of the Pearl River Delta. It’s about 70 km from Guangzhou and 200km from Shenzhen.
  • Its name in Chinese means four rivers meet here in the county.

  • The wetland park is a convienient destination for people living in metropolis to do some bird watching and relax a bit.

Huadu Lake Wetland

  • Huadu Lake is located in the Huadu district of Guangzhou.
  • To improve the water quality of Huadu lake, Huadu government has shut down a batch of enterprises and farms that caused water pollution.

Shou Changhe mangrove forest wetland park is located in Jiangmen, a coastal city in the south of Guangdong. It’s about 250 km from Guangzhou and 300 km from Shenzhen.
